Students must have a current National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) card to practice.  Adequate stock is provided for both the timed and riding events.  Bucking machines are available to enhance practice.  Practices are video taped for review by team members and coaches.  Students are required to enroll in Rodeo Timed Event and Rodeo Rough Stock classes to practice and rodeo.  Students receive credit for these classes.  Rodeo athletes are also required to enroll in a fitness program on campus, where they receive individual instruction twice a week by a fitness trainer who is knowledgeable of their rodeo events.

Rodeos

The nation is divided into eleven regions.  Central Wyoming College Rodeo Team competes in the Central Rocky Mountain Region, which consists of Wyoming, Colorado and Chadron, Nebraska.  The point team members of six men and four women will receive travel and meal money as well as rooms for the weekend.  Teams are chosen by the coaches based on performances and effort in practice and at the rodeos.  All student athletes that are enrolled in the CWC Rodeo Program and that have a NIRA card may compete at the rodeos.  Team members and individuals may earn points at each rodeo by placing in the top four in their event in the long round, the short round and the average.  The Central Rocky Mountain Region has ten rodeos each year, four in the fall and six in the spring.

College National Finals Rodeo

To qualify for the CNFR, student athletes must place in the top three in their events on the Regional level.  The top two Men's and Women's teams in the Region also qualify to compete at the CNFR.

Scholarships

Rodeo scholarships are available for those student athletes who qualify.  Scholarships are awarded by the rodeo coach with approval by the CWC Scholarship Committee.  Scholarship amounts vary with the ability of the student.  All students must maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average to be eligible to rodeo and for scholarships.  Students can participate in rodeo three years at a community college, with special requirements for a fourth year of rodeo eligibility.   In addition to CWC scholarships, Regional and National scholarships are sponsored by US Tobacco. Students who wish to rodeo for CWC are encouraged to apply for academic scholarships given by CWC with the general scholarship application.  Deadline for scholarship application is March 1st.
